It is a multipurpose dam built as a flood control measure for the Kashima River system. It is along Route 444 (Shiawase Kaido) that connects Kashima and Omura. The area around is a drive course full of nature. There is a local food restaurant named 'Nominosato' as well as restrooms with the Kudo structure or a type of old Japanese house structure and parking lots.

There is a park by the reservoir of Nakakoba Dam on the way to the starting point of a trail up Mt. Kyogatake. Spectacular 5000 Japanese hydrangeas bloom beautifully there. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine.
