It is a Soto-sect Buddhist temple which the first lord of Kashima Domain, Lord Tadashige Nabeshima, built in 1623 in memory of his departed wife. Lord Tadashige Nabeshima's ashes and the hair of the deceased third lord of the domain and the later deceased lords have been preserved in their tombs here. One wooden sculpture of a Zen Buddhist priest and wooden statues of 16 rakans or high Buddhist priests, all designated as Municipal Important Cultural Properties, are enshrined here.
